About Kate Thomas


Kate is a communication industry leader; known for her collaborative work style, consistent high performance when directing communication and engagement programs, and sensitive management of difficult communication tasks.

Kate has three decades of experience planning and delivering communication programs for Australian companies, government agencies, industry groups and major infrastructure projects.

She founded Communikate in 1996 after consulting roles in the public relations and advertising industries.

Kate’s core areas of expertise are community and stakeholder engagement, corporate communication, and communication for major infrastructure projects and workplace change programs.

Involvement in long-term collaborative contracts in the infrastructure development industry has shaped Kate’s approach to work. She understands the different drivers of asset owners, elected representatives, service providers and community members, and works effectively with people from all backgrounds.

Kate thinks laterally and is accountable for communication outcomes. Her track record is very strong, with every communication program under her leadership achieving ‘very high’ customer satisfaction ratings based on annual audits. She is often invited by her clients to lead strategic communication initiatives and special projects.

Kate has served in management or communication lead roles on many major projects during her career. Her longest serving role was as community and stakeholder engagement lead for the Logan Water Partnership (involving Logan Water, Downer, WSP and Stantec) from 2009 to 2022.
